Key Responsibilities
Draft and review government interest statements for federally funded inventions.
Provide strategic counsel on patent law, IP rights, and compliance with US federal regulations.
Handle IP disputes involving federal agencies, universities, and other stakeholders.
Advise clients on issues related to federal IP compliance and technology transfer.
Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications in the US and coordinate with outside counsel as needed.
Perform due diligence on IP portfolios and assess freedom-to-operate, patentability, and licensing risks.
Collaborate cross-functionally, delivering clear written and verbal guidance on complex legal issues.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited US law school and admitted to practice before the USPTO.
Expertise in US patent law and intellectual property rights, particularly in the federal sector.
Demonstrated experience with government interest statements and federal IP compliance.
Proven track record managing IP disputes between federal agencies, research institutions, and universities.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical legal concepts clearly.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in drafting legal documents and advising stakeholders.
Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to manage multiple complex projects in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience advising on Bayh-Dole Act compliance or federal technology transfer regulations.
Background in a STEM field or previous work with technology-driven organizations.
Prior involvement in negotiating research or collaborative agreements with government entities.
